ROCK PAPER SCISSORS!

All week, we've been bringing in food for Winnipeg Harvest. Each time we brought a can or box, we got an extra life for rock, paper, scissors.

Today we had our competition.

JULIA WAS THE CHAMPION! She had 7 lives and was left was 3 lives. Now she is going to battle other classrooms in our school. Then, the school champions get to go to Sturgeon Heights and battle other schools.

GO JULIA GO!

This has been a busy week in room 25 because we've been getting ready for student-led conferences! They are happening tonight or tomorrow morning! In the afternoon, Ms. Moffatt has to go for more SMART board training (but she's already an expert) (Duncan says "Say whaaaat?")

We are excited for December because...
"It's Christmas!" - Eddie
"We're going to make gingerbread houses!" - Gaby
"It's going to be a gingerbread month!" - Julia
"More snow!!" - Ms. Moffatt

We've got a lot to do so this is a short entry!

HAVE A GREAT LONG WEEKEND!

It's a snowy day!

It's finally Friday. It was a very busy week but it was fun!

We had technology (laptops) this week and we played math games!
"I played a game where you had to match number and you had to hit the right barrel to get through it. There was monkey in the car driving and you were controlling it to get Bananas" - Duncan
"I played math-man" - Bryce
"I played a game where you had to pop the balloons with a pin from biggest to smallest and if you got it wrong then it would make a sound like NEEEEE" - Julia
"I played a bug game and you had to hit the right numbers!" - Eddie
"I played a game where you had to break through with the right numbers to make ten" - Ben

This week in we focused on numbers that make equal multiples of ten. We played games to help us with these facts.
FOR EXAMPLE:
1 + 9 = 10
21+ 9 = 30
5 + 5 = 10
25 + 5 = 30
6 + 4 = 10
16 + 4 = 20

We wrote stories about SNOW DAY! If Strathmillan School had a snow day, I would...
"Have a snowball fight with my sister" - Raeann
"Go to the festival of lights" - Marisa
"Build a snow fort for the pigs to hide" - Daren

This was our Friday funny this morning:

We didn't take any pictures this week - we were too busy! Thanks for reading!

Our Community

It's been a full week since we did our last post! Last Friday we had a special guest come visit us. Our guest was a Solider named Scott. He talked to us about when he was in Afghanistan. He drank LOTS of water - 20 bottles of water a day! He showed us pictures too - some were black and white pictures of World War 1 and some were his pictures from Afghanistan. Our favourite picture was the picture of the cat and the puppy.

In science this week, we made some boats out of paper, cardboard, buttons, foil and other fun things. We had to test them to see if they floated and then we used balloons to make them move forward.

"Mine worked!"- Ben
"Mine failed! I don't know why!" - Julia
"I had to put my boat face up to work." - Billy
"Mine sunk!" - Marisa
"Mine got wet but it floated a little bit!" - Gaby

In social studies, we built our favourite places in the community. We used cereal boxes and we painted them and then let them dry. Then we put paper letters, words, windows, numbers and doors!

This afternoon, we have an assembly and we are singing to Stand Up to Bullying! We are singing Fireflies by Owl City and Strathmillan Stars!

Our week was so much fun!

We Remember

This is an original poem written by the students in room 25:

We Remember

We remember the people
who fought for peace
who didn't make it home
who keep us safe everyday
who were buried at war and
who lost the ones they love.
We wear poppies on November 11th
to help us remember.

Print-Making

We did print-making with Carmela Wade. Print-making is making prints using styrofoam, paint and papers.

First, you need to carve lines and shapes into styrofoam using all sorts of tools like lids, cookie cutters, pencils, containers, forks and butter knives.

Carmela called us up by tables to put paint on the plates. You could use 1, 2 or 3 colors BUT you couldn't mix the colors.

Then you had to put your paper on it. Press it down hard and then peel it off of the styrofoam.

AND.... VOILA!! A PRINT!

We liked print-making because it looks cool!

Here is a picture of all of our prints! Enjoy!

In the morning on halloween we did pumpkin painting, we did pastel pictures and we worked in our activity book!

We had lots of fun!
