Best Week Ever!

Let's start off with a funny story this week. Ms.Moffatt told us not to draw a picture of her in a skirt or dress because she doesn't wear skirts and dresses. Then she found a picture of her wearing a skirt. This is the picture:

Ms. Moffatt in 1987
(The last time she wore a skirt by choice)

And now back to our week...

We started Word Work this week. Word Work is our 5th choice for Daily 5. You use your spelling words or you try to build new words.

You can use Benda-Roo Sticks to build your words.

You can use letter stamps to stamp out your words.

There is also the build-a-word center but Ms. Moffatt didn't take a picture of it for some reason. Silly Ms.Moffatt.

This week we also used the LAPTOPS!!
"We used Kid Pix on the laptops" - Eddie
"There are rules for the laptops. One of the rules is you have to hold the computer with two hands!" - Marisa
"I felt happy when I used Kid Pix" - Raeann
"It was awesome using Kid Pix!" - Julia

Here are some pictures of us using the laptops:

For art this week, we colored a picture with crayons. Then we painted it all black and we flipped our paintbrush over and we carved the picture into the paint. This made the color show through. Here is some pictures our work:

1 + 1 = FUN

We did math centers this week!

For math centers, we work with a group and we go to different centers and we have fun!

We used the Smart Board to solve word problems. We have to show our answer three ways:  using a picture, a number sentence and a word sentence!

We played Odd Todd and Even Steven! The first one to the winner circle is the winner. If you are Odd Todd and you roll a odd number, you can move one space. If you roll a even number, you miss a turn.

This is the patterning station. We were working on increasing/growing patterns like this
A B A B B A B B B A B B B B
The amount of B's in the pattern is growing.

This was the pizza graphing station. We used the pizza topping data to make a graph. We had to label the graph too.

The last station was number of the day and the Pumpkin Cover-Up game.

We think math centers are really fun because we get to do math, it's like your playing but you are still learning, we like working with a group and because you are working together.

Daily 5

Well I finally sat down and typed out all of our chart papers and created our daily 5 board. We have been reviewing "my job" and "your job" for all of our choices because it helps the students understand what is expected of them during Daily 5. It also reminds them what is expected of me during daily 5 as well. It's always great to have pictures to reinforce what these choices should look like.

Enjoy!

This week in room 25...

We do Daily 5 in our room everyday. We are now up to 4 options. They are:

Read to Self

 Work on Writing

 Listen to Reading

Read to Someone

We like daily 5 because we get to work together, we get to use the CD player for listen to reading and we like getting to choose what we want to do.

In science, we are learning about Solids, Liquids and Gases. We like to play a solid, liquid and gas game. When the teacher calls out solid we stand close to a person, when she calls out a gas we stand far away and when she calls out a liquid you go kind of close without touching.

This week we wrote about what makes us happy!! Here are some of ideas: maple dipped donuts, going to the cabin, playing in forts and going on the swings!!

We had a great week!

Gobble, Gobble, Gobble!

We had a good week. We painted a tree using Q-tips to make dots for leaves on the trees. We are going to use this art to make a poem next week.

We also made our own placemats for our tables for Thanksgiving. We wrote things that we are thankful for. We were thankful for love, shelter, hugs, games, our stuff, water, food, trees, our family, our friends.. Ms. Moffatt was thankful for her lovely students! Ms.Moffatt laminated them so they won't get dirty during supper!

We now have 3 choices in Daily 5 - work on writing, read to self and read to someone! Ben's favorite is work on writing because he just likes to write. Julia's favorite is work on writing because she loves writing. Dylan's favorite is read to someone because he gets to read with his friends.

After we are finished our blog, we are making HAND AND FOOT TURKEYS!

Have a nice Thanksgiving! Enjoy an extra day off - NO SCHOOL MONDAY!

Gobble, Gobble, Gobble!!!

Love Room 25

Also, Julia wants to add that Tuesday is Ms. Moffatt's BIRTHDAY!
