We are a bunch of "smarties"...

We did doodle loop writing. You use a picture to help you write the story. There were pictures of astronauts, mermaids, aliens, rocket ships, lions and sharks.

"I wrote a story about a guy diving from the rocket ship but he was so scared that his friend had to push him off and his friend fell too" - Eddie

"My story was about an astronaut who lived on freeze dried KD" - Ben

"My story.. hmm.. was about a lion who escaped from the zoo so he could find another lion." - Duncan

We did Smartie math. We wanted to see how many Smarties are in the box and what colours they were. We sorted the colors and we made it into a graph. When we were finished, we got to EAT THE SMARTIES!!!!! (Duncan wanted 5 exclamation marks). We liked doing Smartie math!

"I liked doing Smartie math. I had lots of blue, yellow and green smarties." - Julia

"I liked doing smartie math" - Brendon

"This morning during our Friday Funnies we watched a dog that ran into a leaf pile to find a ball and it took him two tries to get the ball. It was super funny." - Dylan

We had a great week!

Teacher Update:
It was a very busy week in our classroom this week. We got a lot done and shared a lot of laughs. I think one of my personal highlights was seeing the excitement of the students going math center to math center - the joy in their eyes filled my heart and reminds me why I am doing this job.

The word of the week was STAMINA! We are working on building up our stamina during read to self and daily 5. We are already up to 9 minutes and the kids are begging me to try 10. I love seeing the enthusiasm and watching them set goals for themselves.

It has been an amazing week! Hope you enjoyed the students updates!

Check out the shelfari on our blog! We update it every week with the different books we have read in our classroom. Feel free to ask your kids about some of these books!

Also, we've added a map so we can see where all of our visitors are from! The kids are really enjoying checking where our visitors live!

Thanks for continuing to check out our blog!

What a day!

Whew! What a first day! It was a very exciting and busy day in room 25. We only had a few minutes at the end of the day to quickly write a message (which I will put below).

We did lots of get to know you games including a name game (I was "Mighty Ms.Moffatt" - ask your child about his or her silly name we came up with, we played a game with the question ball, we read a couple "back to school" stories, we had a class scavenger hunt, we shared about our holidays and probably the highlight of the day, we had GYM in the BIG GYM!

We also brainstormed what a perfect classroom would look like. Here is our chart paper from the brainstorming session!

All in all, it was a great first day! Enjoy the weekend!

One more day...

Day one of conferences is complete and we are ready to start day two. It's always great to be able to meet parents and kids before the school year and discuss some of the important things that are going to be happening in the classroom - like this blog!

Tomorrow is going to be a busy day - we are going to have a classroom scavenger hunt, play a get-to-know-you game with toilet paper, read a poem about being back at school, discuss what the perfect classroom would look like, write our first blog and more!

Hope everyone gets lots of sleep tonight because tomorrow is going to be a busy day for my superstars!
